THE INTERACTIVE
DISPLAY
There has been a push in the last few years to try and make
displays more interactive.

This is for two reasons, and it is best to keep this in mind
when making your displays :
1.To make the display more appealing so that children and
adults want to approach the display.
2.To make them think more deeply about the contents of the
display once they have seen it.

This can be achieved in numerous ways :

QUESTIONING
The quickest and easiest way is to add questions to the
display, you don't necessarily need to provide a forum for them
to answer- although stapling a laminated sheet of white paper
as a makeshift whiteboard is sometimes useful.

SORTING
Similarly sorting can show interaction in a more physical way.
Velcro is good to stick to objects, or words needing sorting
relating to the subject.

TEXTURE
Making the display more tactile, with the right subject such as
materials in science, rough and smooth perhaps?

3-D
Add a third dimension to your work. You can staple book stands
to the board using plastic strips, then you can display books
open on the relevant page.

Staple work and other sheets in a curve, staple one side then
curve the sheet and staple the other side in place.

Use clear plastic strips (cut up bags) to staple artifacts to
the board, that way you won't damage the object and the
transparent plastic should hardly be detected.

MOVEMENT
Go back to the days of making pop up books and apply the
same skills to your displays. Use paper fasteners for question
wheels etc. Use lift up flaps for the element of surprise.
